Flu season is here and the first shipments of the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine have been delivered.
New codes have been released to report the H1N1 vaccine and its administration.
| For Medicare patients, report the appropriate HCPCS codes: |

• G9141 Influenza A (H1N1) immunization administration (includes the physician counseling the patient/family) |
• G9142 Influenza A (H1N1) vaccine, any route of administration |
|
| The AMA has developed a new CPT® code for the administration and has revised an existing code for the vaccine: |
|
• 90470 H1N1 immunization administration (intramuscular, intranasal),including counseling when performed |
• 90663 Influenza virus vaccine, pandemic formulation, H1N1 |
Providers should not charge for the vaccine because it is being provided at no cost.
